Lauter Unfug is a place to go for on-point tech with real mood and edge. The next EP from the crew features a number of different artists. First up A&R Manager Pascal Augner aka Beatamines links with Stil Vor Talent’s Jiggler for one tune, then he goes solo on another, and finally each one gets a fresh remix from some esteemed names, Betoko and Umami.
‘Boomerang’ is the collaborative effort and opens things in slow motion fashion. It means the low slug house groove is a churning, grinding one to wake you up early on in the night. Some smeared synths bring a little drama and Umami remixes this one. The resulting track is more upright and pops a little more, with quicker drums and tumbling toms bringing some looseness.
Then comes the Beatamines solo tune, ‘Boomerang’, which is broody as you like. Thunderous bass rumbles down low as crisp hits ride up top. Its poised for action and will keep dancers guessing. Lastly, Betoko remixes this one into something more direct with circling, panning synths raining down from above as the percussion always resets. The drums are wavy and involving and the whole thing is as masterclass in restraint, much like the EP overall.
