Burning Man festival attendee dies after burn incident

During last Saturday at Nevada’s Burning Man festival a 41-year-old man named Aaron Joel Mitchell rushed into a fire and died. The incident happened around 10:30 pm while burning the famous human effigy in the Black Rock Desert.

The causes of his actions are not known yet. Some witness informed that the man has jumped running the two perimeters of security around the fire. After rescuing him he was treated by the festival’s emergency team, and then taken to a near specialized burn center where he died.

The festival has published a statement explaining the incident and canceled a number of Saturday’s scheduled fires, but continued as planned with the Temple Burn on Sunday night.

“Aaron Joel Mitchell, 41, succumbed Sunday morning to injuries suffered after breaking through a safety perimeter Saturday night and running into a fire at the annual Burning Man event in northern Nevada. Mr Mitchell’s family has been advised of his death. Burning Man is working with local and federal law enforcement agencies, and an investigation is currently ongoing.”
