My Digital Enemy: “We pretty much write what we want to play”

My Digital Enemy has become a phrase that is associated with cutting edge House music. The duo consists of Serg & Kieron who have been working together on various projects for more than ten years. Currently running their own label Zulu Records, they have received recent support by the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong, Annie Mac and Danny Howard.

We had the chance to talk with them about their latest releases and future projects.

Electronic Groove: Hi guys, thanks for the time to chat with us. You’ve just made your Insomniac Records debut with new EP ‘Inside Of Me’. How’s the EP been doing since the release?

My Digital Enemy: Yes, its clocking up some great support so far. We’re really pleased with the progress 🙂

Electronic Groove: It’s cool that the title track ‘Inside Of Me’ was co-wrote with MNEK. How did the collaboration with MNEK come about?

My Digital Enemy: Our management hooked us up with him at the beginning of the year… It was a real buzz as we love all the tracks he does.

Electronic Groove: Did you all work in the studio together, to get a range of ideas and possibilities flowing for the track?

My Digital Enemy: We had already written the backing track and took it along to his studio in London with a bunch of other backing tracks. We sat down and went through the tracks with him to see which ones he could vibe off and he went for it. Once he had done the vocal we took it back to our studio and tweaked the backing track to fit his vocal perfectly.

Electronic Groove: You have produced two great house tracks. How would you describe your sound? Do you ever like to experiment with genres and styles?

My Digital Enemy: We pretty much write what we want to play, our style ranges from House, Tech House to Bass House. Usually it’s all got a heavy bass influence!

Electronic Groove: What did you want to achieve when making the EP? It sounds like ‘The Taker’ is predominantly for club play and ‘Inside Of Me’ more suited for radio?

My Digital Enemy: You hit the nail on the head! We would agree with that for sure.

Electronic Groove: The EP follows on from the single ‘Clocks’ which features the rapper, Tink. A track that was also endorsed by Timbaland, that’s great recognition. Did Timbaland approach you in regards to the track?

My Digital Enemy: Yes it’s been mad, he has tweeted us a few times showing his support which is amazing really!

Electronic Groove: Talking of recognition, you seem to be supported by the whole of Radio 1 Dance. With Danny Howard and Mistajam supporting ‘Clocks’ on their shows as well as Pete Tong and Annie Mac supporting previous releases this year. How does that feel?

My Digital Enemy: To have our tracks played on BBC Radio 1 has always been one of our main goals. To receive such support now and through the years has been the best feeling ever! We are very thankful to the guys at BBC for sure!

Electronic Groove: 2016 quite clearly has been a hugely successful year for you with great support and amazing collaborations. Is there anything else exciting you have coming up before 2016 draws to a close?

My Digital Enemy: We are in talks at the moment about follow ups to ‘Inside Of Me’ and ‘Clocks’ but I think that will be for 2017. Watch this space!

Electronic Groove: Who else is on your list to collaborate with in the future? Do you have a dream collaboration?

My Digital Enemy: We are in talks with Far East Movement and also Kelli Liegh but would love to work with Timbaland and Goldlink so let’s see what 2017 will bring…

Electronic Groove: Do you think 2017 is set to be another big year for My Digital Enemy as well?

My Digital Enemy: I hope so for sure! Let’s do another interview this time next year and we can either laugh or cry together!
