Uone: “I’m a vinyl enthusiast and love to listen to music on wax”

Uone was conceived to the sound of electronic synthesizers. Raised in Melbourne’s Peninsula coast, music quickly became his passion and lifestyle.

We had the opportunity to talk with him aligned to the recent release of his latest track ‘Disco Dingler’ via Beat & Path.

Electronic Groove: Hi Uone, thanks for chatting with us and for sharing such a beautiful mix on our podcast series. So you’re based in Melbourne, what can you tell us about the current scene there?

Uone: Thanks for inviting me. The current scene is extremely healthy, electronic music is booming and Melbourne has been named the most livable city in the world a couple of times in recent years so the population is growing rapidly and techno is becoming popular. We have several outdoor festivals or as Aussies refer to as doofs, operating throughout the summer season and all selling out due to popular demand. Fashion on the fields are inspired by America’s Burning Man culture, nipple covers and sequence are all the rage.

EG: We got word that you will be playing at Lighting in a Bottle. Is this your first time playing in the US?

Uone: No, over the years I have been performing regularly at the Symbiosis Gathering, Burning Man in 2011-13-15 and last year my event concepts and booking agency ‘Vision Hound’ partner up with Melbourne based décor team Glitzern Grime, together we produced the MOON stage at the Oregon Eclipse Festival. I played my debut live show on the SKY STAGE under Uone & Western, then played a DJ set on the MOON stage. The Glitzern Grime crew are actually designing and building the WOOGIE stage at Lighting in Bottle where I will be playing on Sunday afternoon.

EG: How did this booking come together?

Uone: Vision Hound recently toured one of our favorite live acts called Monolink to Australia by Jesse Flemming from the DoLab is his manager. The DoLab guys have seen me perform at BOOM Festival in Portugal and also at the Oregon Eclipse. So I guess it really was the natural sequence of events that lead to the booking.

“Lighting in Bottle is one of the best festivals in the world and I am super excited to present my music to an attentive crowd”

EG: What expectations do you have for this coming event?

Uone: I attended LIB in 2016 and witnessed Lee Burridge dominate the WOOGIE stage. The attention to detail throughout the festival was outstanding. As an event/festival organizers and the person who attendees these events for a living, Lighting in Bottle is one of the best festivals in the world and I am super excited to present my music to an attentive crowd.

EG: Are you preparing something special for it? Any new tracks or remixes you would like to share?

Uone: You betcha! I’ve currently been taking time away from gigs and concentrating on production and preparing my album compilation for Balance Music, I have over 20 original tracks, remixes and collaborations on the go in the studio. My latest EP ‘Disco Dingler’ will be coming out right around the time of LIB on my label Beat & Path.

You can check the premiere right here on Electronic Groove, plus an amusing video clip we made at my ranch featuring a futuristic robot disco dancer.

EG: Any others gig planned in the United States?

Uone: I will be playing at the Terrakroma – Tropical Events -Liquid Frequencies present: “Tropikroma with Uone – House & Techno Pool Party + Afterparty” in Los Angeles on the Saturday 19th May.

EG: You’ve released on labels such as Beat & Path, Katermukke, Stil Vor Talent, and Heinz Music. Are you currently working on any new material or projects?

Uone: A new solo EP coming out on my label Beat & Path called ‘Disco Dingler’, a 3 track EP with a remix from Germany’s Timboletti and a Spacey ambient version. I have a remix of James Monro’s on Proton Music at the start of June, plus an album compilation mix on Australia’s Balance Music in September/October.

EG: What other music do you like to listen to when chilling and unwinding?

Uone: I’m a vinyl enthusiast and love to listen to music on wax while cooking dinner and hanging with friends around the fireplace. I’m listening anything from Deltron 3030, Gorillaz, Nina Simone, Trentemoller, The Beatles, Jeff Özdemir & Friends, Nick Cave. I’m constantly searching for sounds to sample and listening to old abstract pieces of vinyl.

EG: What plans do you have for the rest of 2018. Are you looking forward to any upcoming gigs?

Uone: Will be making a tour of Europe in the latter half of August, with shows in Germany and Ibiza. Really looking forward to playing at WooMoon, the crew are pouring loads of love into art and programming into their events and you can really feel the vibe.
