Lollapalooza founder is working on a new project that is set to turn away EDM

Perry Farrell, a former member of the band Jane’s Addiction, started Lollapalooza 25 years ago with the intention of it being a one-time event heavily dominated by the alternative and rock genres. The event, now considered one of USA’s greatest festivals alongside Coachella and Bonnaroo, has grown to showcase a wider variety of genres including hip-hop, rock, and EDM.

In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Farrell revealed that he is ready to move on from his involvement in Lollapalooza and will have a new project ready in approximately 18 months time that will keep music at the heart, but be a “completely new experience”.

Even though Lollapalooza named the stage that tends to house most of the EDM talents of the festival after Farrell, he has reportedly said he hates EDM and that he “can’t stand what it did to what he loves, which is house music, which was meditative, psychedelic — and it took you on a journey.”

In the interview, Farrell explains that his distaste with the actual state of EDM has helped inspire his upcoming project. “The only way to change things is by changing things myself. At my new project, there will be great house music. I hope I will keep EDM at the door. They will be turned away,” he said.
