If jazz has a home in London then it’s unequivocally located amidst the faded grandeur of Ronnie Scotts iconic Jazz Club. Founded way back in 1959 the club has seen everyone from the likes of Van Morrison, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Chaka Khan, Nina Simone, Curtis Mayfield, and more recently, Katie Melua and Jamie Cullum grace its intimate, sax-heavy floors.
Equally, if there’s a place to conduct late-night affair in Soho, then Scott’s is undoubtedly it. The venue is one of London’s most elegantly romantic and consistently delivers the very best of the genre to its dedicated London audience with unobtrusive panache.
Brilliantly then, for jazz and electronic lovers alike, on September 22nd 2017, Ibiza’s original party hotspot and Pikes, have teamed up with the venue to offer a poolside dinner and live DJ sets teamed with orchestral vibes in a compelling fusion of gourmet, electronica and jazz.
The Femi Kolesoso Quartet, will be performing classics over a champagne, three-course supper. Koleoso (Ezra Collective), David Mrakpor (Blue Lab Beats), Ashley Henry, and Nubya Garcia are artists who fuse four very idiosyncratic styles, delivering faultless groove-based jazz. Later on, as the sun settles over the white isle and you round off dinner with an all-inclusive espresso martini, hear DJ’s from Ronnie Scott’s, Funky Nation and hit the dancefloor, as this British institution brings some London colour to Pikes.
With an ever-growing emphasis on live percussion and instrumentals on the electronic world stage – think Dave August, Max Cooper, Bob Moses, Jan Blomqvist, Kate Simko’s London Electronic Orchestra to name but a few – this is a well-timed and on trend venture for both venues. It’s also in our mind, the perfect way to ease you gently into a late September Ibiza weekend.
