Afterlife Ibiza Closing ’18

After their previous life at Privilege, Tale of Us has returned their Afterlife party to where their debut was made two years previously. For it’s third season on the island, the Italian duo have spared no expense in bringing the most essential artists and their sounds for the closing of the 2018 season.

Familiarity of the former Space surrounds the aura of Playa Den Bossa’s newest super club, though when entering, feels altogether superior – reborn in a way that compliments the otherworldly techno that has been curated for the night and day ahead.

Now named the Theatre, the ex Discoteca room, implements phenomenal energy around the dance floor with a level of production not seen in other clubs around the island. Underneath the symbolic suspended upside down figure, Âme’s Kristian Beyer was in full control with a crisp selection of empowering techno that kept the dance floor reaching out for more.

Once installed, German synth wizard Stephan Bodzin and his setup dominated the Theatre for an hour of his own blend of mesmerising, high impact live techno that would even convert the most skeptic of dancers in the crowd that night, with customary rippers such as ‘Zulu’ and Afterlife’s own imprint ‘Strand’ making their appearances that sail through the channels of emotion and mysticism. It is these driving productions that have led him on an expansive tour schedule with abundance of opportunities to see him live, though with a consequence of an absence of new music.

Moving into the former Terrace, the now named Club, can be accessed direct from the Theatre – with a lower ceiling and more compact feel, the focus is more primarily on the music which was idealistic for Recondite and his live show which, like Âme sounded thoroughly fresh yet still natural to his emotive, fully immersive style of techno.

Meanwhile, back the Theatre, Mosiac pioneer Maceo Plex asserted his position behind the turntables and after a composed start to his set with tracks like Mathias Schaffhäuser’s ‘Nice To Meet You’ (Maceo Plex Remix) making the progressive cut, before the journey continued deeper into the Afterlife. Eric’s own unique and compelling characteristic sound continued to fill the Theatre with otherworldly musical excellence throughout his set, memorably when Le Carousel ‘Carousel (Phil Kieran Mix)’ made a play.

Up next, techno storytellers Tale of Us took their position – ready to take the room on musical odyssey for their final set of the season. As the morning progressed, as did the energy and music with a thundering journey through the spectrum of techno. An exceptional Undercatt remix of Temper Trap’s ‘Sweet Disposition’ filled the Theatre with heart and soul, as the dance floor raised their hands and sang along amongst a blinding display of lazers and dazzling visuals, that can’t be compared anywhere else on the island. As the duo maintained the spirit of the party well into the early hours, the unmistakable cyber vocals of Mathame’s ‘Nothing Around Us’ reverberated around the room, and once again, HÏ’s custom Adamson sound system rattled the bones of everybody on the floor with it’s powerful and dynamic lows, though without compromising on clarity – truly exceptional.

With a lineup this outstanding, this particular journey into the Afterlife always promised to be something special, though nobody would expect a remarkable back2back2back between Tale of Us, Âme and Maceo Plex to welcome in the sunrise and the end to a residency that has captured the mind, body and souls of those have to frequented the conceptual passage between this life and the After.
