Beatport will accept Bitcoin starting June

The platform also announced an NFT compilation featuring Charlotte de Witte, Sasha, Sama’ Abdulhadi, and more.

Digital music retailer Beatport has announced that it will move into the cryptocurrency sector and start accepting payments in Bitcoin starting next June. In partnership with Crypto.com, Beatport will become the first major online retailer to allow purchases in crypto.

In line with the announcement, the company is also set to release a new audiovisual compilation as an NFT. Scheduled for Friday, April 23rd, the VA will be featuring music by Sasha, Charlotte de Witte, Pan-Pot, Boys Noize, and more, with the artwork by acclaimed visual artist Leif Podhajsky (Bonobo, Tame Impala, Foals).

‘For Beatport, this is just the beginning of our exploration into the metaverse, and we are committed to the long-term opportunities this revolutionary technology portends’ says CEO Robb McDaniels.

‘Music For Future Dancefloors’ will be sold as what Beatport calls ‘mini-drops’. Each one will go for $303, followed by the auction of the complete compilation with a bonus track and passes to shows by the artists in the project. Part of the proceeds will be donated to charity, including carbon offsetting.
