Deadmau5 headlines Movement Detroit as Testpilot

Being the birthplace of techno, and now in its 17th installment, Detroit’s’ legendary riverfront destination, the world renowned Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF),  has claimed its birthright as being specialists in predicting the next wave of underground talent as well as honoring homegrown legends.

With the legacy of Detroit techno guiding their curating, festival stewards Paxahau is synonymous with excellence and has an industry reputation that is unparalleled. They have never been compelled to pursue musical trends during their 10 years of producing Movement Electronic Music Festival within the Motor City’s intimate Hart Plaza. Whether this be through regularly booking the globe’s best selectors (e.g. Loco Dice, Seth Troxler, Claude VonStroke, Magda, Matthew Dear) or by hosting eclectic showcases, Movement consistently manages to grab a handle on both the electronic flavors of Ibiza and the State’s ever expanding dance music festival circuit.

The annual event boasts six outdoor stages; engaging art displays curated by top talent; a posh VIP setting located behind the Main Stage; an interactive technology center featuring the industry’s top electronic music instrument makers. Stellar additional programming each night after the festival closes, will host dozens of official afterparties at several of the city’s hottest venues. Over 30,000 people a day from around the globe attended the festival in 2016.

Following Movement Detroit’s initial lineup announcement, which included Monday’s Main Stage headliner Carl Cox as well as The Belleville Three, Adam Beyer, Barclay Crenshaw, Danny Brown, Dixon and many more. The festival organizers are excited to reveal over 40 additional acts to its 2017 Phase 1 Lineup, bringing this year’s billing to 113 performances.

Today’s Phase 2 Lineup announcement features world-renowned electronic music artist and producer deadmau5 under his Testpilot alias as Sunday’s Main Stage headliner and Techno pioneer Richie Hawtin as Saturday’s Main Stage headliner. Movement returns to Detroit’s legendary Hart Plaza on Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-29, 2017.

It’s been nearly four years since deadmau5 performed under his Techno-driven namesake, which he premiered alongside fellow Canadian and festival favorite Richie Hawtin at SXSW in 2013. Following the critically acclaimed performance, Testpilot released “Sunspot (White Space Conflict)” on Hawtin’s Plus 8 Records, which was widely embraced by fans and critics alike. This also marks the second time the mau5trap label boss has performed at Movement (his first performance was in 2008 as deadmau5).

Other notable acts announced today include: Juicy J, the Memphis-born hip-hop icon and founding member of Academy Award-winning group Three 6 Mafia; and a special performance by Detroit’s own Carl Craig as Carl Craig presents Versus Synthesizer Ensemble. The complete list of Phase 2 acts can be found below.

3-Day GA Weekend Passes, 3-Day VIP Weekend Passes and Single-Day Passes are now available at www.movement.us. Stay tuned to the Movement social media channels and website for festival schedule and upcoming announcements.
