“In my mixes, I always try to sculpt a broad spectrum of electronic music. A storytelling journey that takes you through grooves and atmospheres. The tracks are carefully selected and all have a reason to be included. In this mix, I want to focus on a few releases – the IDs and ‘Movin On’ – which all will come out on my imprint Flores. Let’s surf through time and space.” – Budakid
For Budakid, making music is second nature. The Dutch artist, born Kevin Huizing, doesn’t see it as a job. It’s a vital part of his life, a practice rooted in joy rather than pressure.
That sense of freedom runs deep through his productions. Known for emotionally rich tracks that stir dance floors without chasing trends, Budakid has released on top labels including Watergate, Permanent Vacation, Diynamic, Exploited, Disco Halal, Lost & Found, and Anjunadeep. His music carries weight but never feels heavy. Whether in clubs or under open skies, he connects with dancers through warmth and feeling.
His talent reaches beyond his own releases. A conservatory-trained engineer, Budakid also writes and produces for others, using the tools he’s honed since his early days as a drummer. Born into a musical Indonesian family, his journey began behind a drum kit before evolving into digital composition as a teenager. At just 15, he played live for the first time and quickly found his place in the Dutch underground.
Later studies in graphic design added a strong visual sense to his creative work. That perspective now shapes the cinematic tone of his tracks. Each one paints a scene, suggests a journey, and taps into emotion. It’s no surprise his music has earned support from the likes of Solomun, Keinemusik, Jazzanova, Pete Tong, Bonobo, Black Coffee, Bob Moses, Rüfus Du Sol, Tensnake, Sasha, and more.
For Budakid, the ideal setup is one where he can keep experimenting. During the pandemic, he took a step back from the club circuit and gave himself permission to explore. That pause sparked new directions. Some now appear in his electronic jazz band, others in his current club output.
His shows span the world. From Tomorrowland and Sonar to Pleinvrees, DGTL, ADE, and Gardens of Babylon. He’s equally comfortable at intimate venues like Watergate Berlin, The Block Tel Aviv, Melkweg, and Thuishaven. No matter the setting, Budakid brings his gentle charisma and a sound that stays rooted in authenticity.
Now, as he steps into EG.1037 to mark the launch of Balance Festival, Budakid brings that same clarity of vision to the mix. A moment of harmony between emotion, groove, and imagination. A set shaped by intention and delivered with care. Grab your tickets for Balance Festival 2025 here.
