EG MINML.009 Ray Okpara

Ray Okpara emerged from the house music circles of Frankfurt and Mannheim in the late 2000s, building a reputation through deeply grooved, percussion driven productions and DJ sets rooted in rhythm and movement.

With Nigerian roots and a musical identity shaped in Germany, Okpara quickly found support from labels including Lomidhigh Lmtd, Drumpoet Community, Area Remote, Oslo Records, and Mobilee Records. His productions became known for rolling drums, warm low end, and a stripped back approach to house music.

After spending several years in Berlin, Ray launched Ama Recordings in 2010. The label takes its name from his middle name, Amaefule, which translates as “your name will never get lost.” Ama became a personal platform for Ray’s music and a home for artists including Ema Remedi, Sascha Dive, and Nick Curly.

His relationship with Mobilee Records marked another key chapter. Releases including “Good Times,” “Back To Back Volume 8,” “Sugar Feel,” and “Rao de Rani” introduced his music to a wider audience while keeping his own identity firmly intact.

Beyond the studio, Ray has built his reputation through years behind the decks and an extensive international career. His It’s Ours party series also became part of that story, welcoming artists such as Nekes, Okain, Shane Watcha, and Marko Nastic.

Now based in Mannheim, Ray Okpara joins the Electronic Groove mix series for EG MINML.009.
