Add-us: “Zone should be a motivation to fight for all the things you want to achieve”

Add-us is a DJ and producer duo, which consists of two friends, Robert and Patrick. After a 4-year break from music, the two teamed up in 2018 for the project Add-us. The duo produces music with strong techno lines and emotional parts in its breaks or drops for goosebump-filled moments, and their sets with a mix of driving basses and melodic elements subdue listeners into a state of trance. Today, they are also the driving force behind their own Solution Records.

EG caught up with Add-us to learn more about the releases of ‘Zone’ and ‘My Chance’, their projections for Solution Records, origins, inspirations, and much more.

Electronic Groove: Hi Robert! Patrick! Welcome to EG. It’s great to have you with us. How’s your year so far? What have you been up to?

Add-us: Thank you so much for having us. The year is going quickly, and we are spending every free minute in the studio, working on our music.

Electronic Groove: Congratulations on the release of ‘Zone’! What has the reception been like so far?

Add-us: It was great. We were in the Beatport Hype Charts, and we’re get good reactions for the track.

Electronic Groove: So, what’s this one all about? What was your inspiration for ‘Zone’? What will your fans find on this one?

Add-us: ‘Zone’ was a quite simple production. We were in a good vibe, and we found the elements very fast for the track. We wanted to build the arrangement up very strongly with only one break in the track. It builds up step by step with more elements and has nice a push in the break. After that, comes the highlight with the synth melody. We called the track ‘Zone’ because it has many different phases, which describes the hard way you have to go when you have a big goal. The cut should be a motivation to fight for all the things you want to achieve.

Electronic Groove: ‘Zone’ is already available on your imprint Solution Records. How has the label been fairing so far? How are you now navigating that side of the industry as label owners? What else can we expect from Solution Records?

Add-us: We send tracks to our favorite labels and sometimes we get a rejection and sometimes we don’t get any feedback at all. We work very hard on our goals and we want to make music for the public. With every negative response, we get a negative vibe and that’s not good for our inspiration. That’s one reason why we decided to start with our own label. We have big plans for the future with Solution Records. First of all, we want to push our music and that of other artists to the top of the rankings. One of our biggest dreams would be a worldwide label event or a residency night in Ibiza.

“After a few months, we were musing and knew this is it, that’s what we want to do. We wrote our goals with the music and ourselves and right now we’re fighting for it every day”

Electronic Groove: Sounds nice. Now we’d like to learn more about your origins. You’ve been producing together since 2018, right? How did you guys meet? Were you already established producers on your own?

Add-us: We met when we were 14 years old. We learned to mix together and step by step we grew together. Robert had a child in his early 20s and we wanted some time off. We went to normal jobs and worked like everyone else, but the fire in us never stopped burning. After a few years, we met again, and the music was always in us and we built a small studio. The monitors were on cardboard boxes…. But well… we started. After a few months, we were musing and knew this is it, that’s what we want to do. We wrote our goals with the music and ourselves and right now we’re fighting for it every day.

Electronic Groove: And why did you decide to get into music production together? What strengths does each one bring to the table?

Add-us: Robert loves to play with a controller. He is very disciplined and only finishes his work when he has achieved his goal. And, Patrick is really creative with his arrangements. He brings a simple idea to a 7-minute track with ups and downs. He gives every project a unique note.

Electronic Groove: What is your workflow in the studio like? Do flow with ease, or do you have constant discussions for the benefit of the task at hand? Is there a blueprint you guys follow by now?

Add-us: It’s difficult… Sometimes we have a good workflow and we can create a track in one day. But lately, we need more time! We want to grow with each track and try to put some special effects or moments in our tracks and it’s not always easy. We have good harmony between us, but of course, we had to learn to work together in the beginning.

Electronic Groove: Let’s step inside your record collection for a bit…Which electronic track would you say is your favorite all-time piece? Why?

Add-us: One of our latest productions is ‘Find You’, one of our favorites. Patrick sings the vocals and he has a deep connection to the song. We are looking forward to our upcoming releases. We have been working very hard on our sound. It’s very important to us to create a very special, unique moment in each production.

“We have big plans for the future with Solution Records. First of all, we want to push our music and that of other artists to the top of the rankings. One of our biggest dreams would be a worldwide label event or a residency night in Ibiza”

Electronic Groove: What else can we expect from Add-us in the future? What new milestones are you looking forward to in 2022?

Add-us: We have big goals for this year. We want to become one of the top artists in the world. The only thing we want to do is music. We motivate ourselves with everything that is coming in the future. Sometimes we talk for hours about everything we are going to experience. We paint the visions in our heads and believe in them. Sooner or later we live our dream.

Electronic Groove: Thank you for your time guys! We wish you all the best for the future!

Add-us: Thank you for the nice talk.

Add-us’ ‘My Chance’ and ‘Zone’ are out now on Solution Records.
