Jess Bays shares five motivational tips for the studio

A testament to her raw passion, ambition, and dedication, Jess Bays has fast become one of the standout artists to break through in the past 12 months by gaining incredible momentum at a time when the world has been changing rapidly for us all. Bays, radio host for Capital Dance, can flex remixes for Rudimental and Becky Hill, with music released on Stress Records, FFRR, Polydor, Sony, Universal, Armada, and Good Company, as her undeniable sound has given a fresh narrative to a whole new generation of deeper house music, while garnering strong support across BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing, and Kiss FM.

Proudly becoming a resident for Defected has seen Jess DJ right across the globe with shows in Ibiza, Croatia, Miami, Chicago, and Brazil alongside sets at Lakedance, Latitude, We Are FSTVL, Ministry Of Sound, Warehouse Project, and a monthly residency at London’s infamous XOYO.

Jess Bays’ collaboration with Hanna Wants, ‘I Don’t Know (feat. Jennifer Jamieson)’, is already available to stream and purchase via Stress Records. In celebration of the release, Bays shares 5 motivational tips for the studio.

1. Be Confident

If you think something sounds good, then push that idea through. Trust in what you think sounds right and often you will reap the rewards on this.

2. Get Inspired

I love working with other people and collaborating together on projects – co-producers, songwriters & vocalists! The more talent in the room, the better… That’s when the magic happens.

3. Listen

Get on the dance floor, listen to the radio, stream, use your ears. 9 times out of 10 I’ll go into the studio knowing what sound I want to create because I’ve heard it somewhere & want to put my own spin on that.

4. Know When To Stop

This is something that has happened a few times in the studio and I’ve learned to trust this part of the process – if an idea isn’t going anywhere & you are getting frustrated, admit defeat & try again tomorrow!

5. Get Emotional

Trust me on this one, good music comes from getting your feelings out. Pour your whole heart into whatever you are writing, make it connect.
