MUTEK Montreal kicks off 21st edition today

This is the first physical-virtual edition.

Today begins the 21st edition of MUTEK Montreal, a special edition because for the first time in its history it is formatted as a true hybrid experience of physical and online events, with more than 100 artists, 58 performances, and 32 premieres. The virtual program will also feature the new MUTEK Connect initiative, meant to present shows from the different venues of the MUTEK International Network such as Barcelona, ​​Mexico City, Buenos Aires, San Francisco, and Tokyo and, in connection with the Transart Festival, from Italy, the Chapelle XIV cultural venue in France, as well as the B39 arts center and its associated festival, PRECTXE, in South Korea.

The online broadcasts will be open to everyone and free of charge through a new virtual platform designed in Montreal, in collaboration with the Folklore Agency, in which all MUTEK Connect content can be enjoyed through three virtual stages in a hybrid format, with the public present in their places of origin and with global audiences connected online. They also have an interactive gallery with exhibits of 360° VR and sound pieces; a screening room that will offer a selection of MUTEK Forum masterclasses and presentations hosted by artists in the fields of sound design and digital creativity; and a listening room that will span 20 years of live performances at the Canadian festival. International performers include Bionautas (Jonas Kopp & Flor del Valle), George Hurd, Joana Gomila, Marina Herlop, Molly, Junichi Akagawa, Hiroaki Umeda, Arushi Jain & Carly Lave, Maotik & Maarten Vos, Grand River & Marco C, Wasted Fates & Future Forward and more.

Parallel to the program of performances, the MUTEK Forum will take place, a shared platform for artists, companies, researchers, and other industry players to discover the latest practices and tools for digital creation, generate new business opportunities, and, together, imagine our digital future.

The content of the MUTEK Forum will bring together more than 600 people and 300 organizations with the aim of providing everyone with a path to online exploration tailored to their needs. A total of 25 projects and organizations based in Spain have confirmed their participation.
