New Faces: LOV

LOV is a 24-year old Italian, female vocalist. Her musical upbringing started at the tender age of 8 when she started studying music and began to be classically trained, both in singing and piano. At 18 she moved to New York in order to attend a musical course on Broadway at the New York Film Academy. With this added knowledge forming another string to her bow, she started her own songwriting at 19, often taking inspiration from alternative indie and pop music groups such as Alt-j, Lorde, Lana del Rey & Chromatics. This passion soon transferred over to a combined love of electronic music, and her interest of experimenting and mixing the different genres together. It’s since this that LOV has looked to carry her distinguished voice to a number of electronic music tracks, having participated yet on Armada Subjekt and Glasgow Underground releases.

We caught up with LOV to introduce herself and inform us about her current musical projects.

Electronic Groove: What’s your real name, and where were you born?

LOV: My real name is Francesca and I was born in Torino, Italy.

EG: Describe your music in 3 words?

LOV: Catchy, Dreamy and Unique.

EG: Where are you based?

LOV: I’m currently based in London.

EG: What labels have you released on in your career?

LOV: My first release was on Armada Subjekt, and I’ve also released on SUPERFETT, the sister label of Mother Recordings.

EG: Can you mention 3 artists you aspire to / have influenced you?

LOV: It’s really hard to just choose 3 artists…but what I can say is that my favorite definitely are: Alt-J (obsessed with their lyrics), then The Doors (their melodies are just so hypnotic) and, last but not least, Billie Eilish (she’s just 17 but she has made a massive impact in the music scene)

EG: How long have you been producing music? What was your first signed release?

LOV: I’ve been studying music since I was 8 years old and I started writing when I was 13 so I’ve been singing all my life. The first important release that got signed was ‘Call Your Name’ on Armada Subjekt and that was a collaboration with Italian duo Alaia & Gallo, which reached Number 2 in the Traxsource main chart 🙂

EG: Three things you can’t live without on the road when touring?

LOV: Laptop, My keyboard and Bloody Marys (with gin).

EG: Can you tell us about your next release?

LOV: I’m currently working on a track with New Zealand artist Dilby. We should have more details very soon. I also have a super cool tune I did with CASSIMM coming out on Armada Subjekt in the next couple of months, so the summer is shaping up nicely.

EG: One piece of advice you can give to other aspiring producers?

LOV: Sometimes it’s hard to be yourself in the music industry as you always try to think what people will like, so my piece of advice is to accept your uniqueness and play with it, be brave, and that will make you stand out.
