Joeski shares 5 tips to increase your studio motivation

Analog gives way to digital, trends come and go, yet NYC’s DJ Joeski remains at the top of his game, and now, in the midst of his third decade as one of house music’s most sought-after stars, his momentum shows no signs of slowing. Joeski’s trajectory can be traced back to 1991 and, this June, the world-renowned DJ and producer will make an eagerly awaited return to Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels with the two-track ‘In Dub We Trust’.

Drawing inspiration from one of his favorite genres, reggae dub, Joeski delivers two equally powerful low-frequency, driven cuts that demonstrate why he has been one of dance music’s most coveted artists for over two decades. In the last year alone, he has released on Poker Flat Recordings, Deeperfect Records, Relief, Club Bad, and more, as well as on his own Maya Records, further proof that Joeski continues to maintain his place as one of the scene’s most enduring talents.

1. Get inspired by your favorite tunes

Create a game plan to listen to the tracks that really inspire you to get amped on creating something. I feel like when I listen to my favorite tracks I get really inspired and get right into it. I don’t just listen to the ideas, I’m also listening to how the track feels sonically.

2. Explore new vibes

Think outside the box and don’t be afraid to experiment a little. You could be pleasantly surprised by the outcome. Some of my biggest tracks have been ones that I went outside of my comfort zone with.

3. Learn new techniques to improve your sound

Sound quality is everything! Focus on learning how you can improve your tracks sonically. In this day and age of Youtube it is so easy to learn about equalization and mixing techniques to make your music sound so much better.

4. Don’t stop until you make it

Finish open projects! This is a very important one! When I first started in production, I used to always start tracks and move on to another then end up with a whole bunch of unfinished tracks. I find it works out better for me when I finish a track completely. It actually inspires me to start another.

5. Be patient

Don’t get discouraged! It takes time to become a great producer. Believe me – I have been doing this for a long time and every day I go to the studio I learn something new. If you truly love what you are doing and it will show so keep at it and it will all pay off.
