The British artist played for the first time at the Leeds club on November 23rd, 1991.

Ralph Lawson recently announced that he will not continue his residency at Back To Basics, one of the longest-standing underground clubs in the United Kingdom, in which he offered approximately 700 shows over the 28 years. The DJ revealed that he decided to close the cycle while watching a Carl Cox presentation, with a sold-out club on May 24th, 2019, the day he offered his last set as a resident.

At that time, Lawson played with renowned international guests, including Daft Punk, Dust Brothers (pre-Chemical Brothers), Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Marshall Jefferson, Francois Kevorkian, Lil ‘Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, Danny Tenaglia, Craig Richards, Steve Bug, Dixon, Henrik Schwarz (live), Âme, KiNK (live), and many more.

Back To Basics, which continues with Dave Beer at the helm, has been repeatedly awarded. In a blog post, Lawson wrote extended details about the club’s trajectory. In addition, in the same text, the artist offered his vision on the status of the electronic scene in his country and the world.

“I need to thank Dave (Beer) both in person and in public for supporting me as a DJ in good and bad times. I must thank all the amazing residents of the club, who have given me so many good times … And finally, I have to thank each and every one of the people who once stepped on the club and gave me their energy”, concluded the artist.

To say goodbye, Lawson released a series of mixes that pay homage to the club called ‘basic vision’, along with a vinyl collection of songs sought from the club entitled ‘Back To Basics rare classics’. Listen to them below.
