There are records that build towards release, and others that seem to hold onto a feeling until the final second. ‘Dive’ belongs to the latter.

The debut single from ANDØLD, a new project from Harold van Lennep, Andreas Ahrnberg and Matilda Thompson, ‘Dive’ arrives as the first release on their newly launched ØBSCURE RECORDS.

Drawing from deep and progressive house, indie dance and pop songwriting, ‘Dive’ balances melancholy with a clear sense of optimism. At its centre are vocals from Matilda and fellow Swedish singer Marlene Strand, recorded together in unison directly into the same microphone. Raw and largely captured in single takes, their voices merge to create the impression of a third voice running through the track.

Around them, understated melodies and an electronic backdrop steadily grow in scale and intensity. It is a record that works in very different settings: equally suited to solitary listening or the closing moments of a night out, when the pace drops and something more reflective takes over.

The project brings together three long-time friends whose individual careers have taken them through different corners of music.

Belgian-Dutch producer Harold van Lennep has released through Armada and Universal, with his single ‘Liberation’ surpassing 150 million streams. Swedish artist and songwriter Matilda Thompson has written for artists including Pitbull, Becky G, Red Velvet and The Boyz. Andreas Ahrnberg has worked across pop and more experimental music, with credits including Red Velvet, Super Junior, Jonghyun and GERD, alongside a Platinum-certified Swedish Eurovision entry and placements with Netflix.

Their connection began at an Amsterdam writing session in 2018. Despite producing little worth keeping, the three connected personally and stayed in touch. Further sessions, writing camps and years of collaboration followed, eventually developing into ANDØLD.

‘Dive’ is the first introduction to the sound they have developed together: melodic electronic music shaped by Nordic melancholy, weighty production and a strong songwriting sensibility.

It also introduces ØBSCURE RECORDS, the independent label founded by the trio. Between them, the team brings decades of experience across songwriting, production, A&R, recording studios and artist development. ØBSCURE provides a home for ANDØLD while laying the foundations for a wider roster and future releases.

As the starting point for both ANDØLD and ØBSCURE, ‘Dive’ sets out their intentions with a record that is emotional, expansive and difficult to pigeonhole.
