Kount’s two-track release pairs atmospheric, hypnotic techno with a Don-inspired club track that brings a familiar piece of Indian cinema into a modern electronic setting.
For almost three decades, Kount has been part of India’s underground electronic music story. Now, the Delhi-based DJ and producer returns with “Sorcery,” a two-track EP on EXTIMA Records, exploring two distinct sides of his sound: one dark, deep and hypnotic; the other driving, familiar and rooted in a defining piece of Indian popular culture.
The title track, “Sorcery,” sets the tone. Built around deep minimal techno, the track unfolds through dark atmospheric layers, hypnotic textures and slow-building tension. Rather than relying on an immediate hook, Kount allows the production to evolve gradually, creating a spacious and immersive journey designed for the dancefloor.
The EP then takes an unexpected turn with “Master Mind.”
Inspired by the iconic world of Amitabh Bachchan’s classic 1978 Bollywood film Don, “Master Mind” brings a recognizable cinematic reference into Kount’s contemporary techno sound. The track incorporates a short spoken dialogue sample into its breakdown before returning to driving rhythms, deep bass, modern synth work, and a more forceful techno energy.
Together, “Sorcery” and “Master Mind” present two complementary sides of Kount’s production style: the hypnotic, late-night atmosphere of the underground and a more immediate dancefloor energy shaped by his cultural roots.
The EP continues Kount’s journey as a DJ and producer after almost three decades in India’s electronic music scene, bringing together the experience of the dancefloor with a distinctly Indian perspective on contemporary techno.
