Sónar sends music to outer space to celebrate its 25 years anniversary

Sónar 25th edition will be taking place next June in Barcelona. For the special occasion the festival’s organizers have decided to send music outside the limits of the solar system with the objective of establishing communication with ‘extraterrestrial’ civilizations.

The recently sent message included 33 music pieces of 10 seconds each, curated by Sónar team and created by artists related to the massive music and arts gathering, who did very imaginative and varied proposals divided into two phases.

The first one was completed during last October month covering fragments by Carsten Nicolai, Nina Kraviz, Autechre, The Black Madonna, Laurel Halo, Jean-Michel Jarre and BFlecha music.

The second phase of transmissions is scheduled for next April 2018, with pieces by Richie Hawtin, Carsten Nicolai, Squarepusher, Kate Tempest, Daito Manabe, Juana Molina, Niño de Elche, Cora Novoa, Lorenzo Senni, Zara Jones, Desert, LCC and Yuzo Koshiro.

The project is entitled ‘Sónar Calling GJ273b’, and acts as the collective celebration in which the public of Sónar and any creator who wishes to can be invited to participate by sending their proposals and/or messages. All proposals must be original compositions, and they will select three of them to be part of the next transmission, scheduled for next year.
