The Mayan to close after 35 years of music in Los Angeles

Final event scheduled for September 13th, as the historic venue bids farewell.

The Mayan, one of Los Angeles’s most iconic music venues, has announced it will permanently close its doors this September after 35 years of operation. The announcement was made via the venue’s Instagram page on Sunday, July 14th.

“It’s with heavy yet grateful hearts that we announce The Mayan will be closing its doors at the end of September, after 35 unforgettable years,” the post read. “To our loyal patrons, community, and friends: thank you for your unwavering support, your trust, and the countless memories we’ve created together. You made every night truly special.”

Originally constructed in 1927, The Mayan has been operating as a music venue since 1990, becoming a cornerstone of Los Angeles nightlife. Over the decades, it welcomed a wide spectrum of artists including Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Haruomi Hosono, Seth Troxler, Carl Craig, KiNK, Bicep, Moderat, Gilles Peterson, John Digweed, Pendulum, Justice, and Jai Paul.

The venue will continue to host events until its final night on September 13th, 2025.
