In 2024, 40 festivals across 14 countries received AGF Certification from A Greener Future (AGF). This highlights the events sector’s growing commitment to environmental stewardship.

AGF Certification has become the gold standard for environmental responsibility in the events industry. Its comprehensive assessment framework evaluates key aspects of festival operations: waste reduction, carbon footprint management, biodiversity protection, and social inclusion initiatives.

Several European festivals have earned ‘Outstanding’ certifications for their environmental leadership. These include the UK’s Green Gathering, Norway’s Øyafestivalen, Belgium’s Paradise City, and France’s We Love Green. The Bristol Harbour Festival, Switzerland’s Paléo Festival, and the American Express Presents BST Hyde Park have also received recognition for their exceptional sustainability programs.

AGF CEO Claire O’Neill emphasizes that certified events are going beyond basic standards with advanced sustainability practices. Their willingness to undergo rigorous external audits shows genuine environmental commitment.

These achievements will be celebrated at the International AGF Awards on February 25, 2025, at the Royal Lancaster London, following the Green Events & Innovations Conference (GEI17). The ceremony will recognize sustainability excellence across festivals, events, arenas, and suppliers, based on thorough assessments from 2023/2024.

The International Greener Festival Award, sponsored by Skydiamond, will recognize leaders in environmental innovation and sustainable event management.
