Beck to Pony, a collaborative project by DJs Beck Ulrike (Beck) and Katja Ponesky (Pony), has recently released their debut single, ‘Frei’. The track is currently available via Mobilee Records and features a music video.

Beck and Pony both from opposite sides of the Iron Curtain, embody the vibrancy of German reunification on the dance floor. Their musical journey, from Stuttgart grunge to the techno temples of Berlin, mirrors the story of German reunification. Now, 20 years later, their dream continues with ‘Frei’, a blend of neon-lit nu-disco and soulful synth-pop that ventures into the indie dance scene.

Beck’s music was shaped by a diverse range of genres, from grunge to the black music of Stuttgart’s G.I. clubs. Pony, in contrast, had a more restricted yet diverse musical background, including world-class performances introduced by her father, Gerald Ponesky.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Pony became a regular at the techno club E-Werk, while Beck continued to flourish in Stuttgart’s music scene. Decades later, they collaborated to produce their own music, crafting a distinctive nu-disco and synth-pop sound reminiscent of Röyksopp and Goldfrapp.
