The Movement Festival returns this Memorial Day Weekend (May 26th-28th, 2018) to its usual location, Detroit’s waterfront Hart Plaza. Featuring an extensive line-up covering most genres in electronic music and spread across five stages, this year’s festival continues its tradition of bringing together some of Detroit’s finest artists with a carefully curated selection of DJs and producers from around the globe.
Widely regarded as the birthplace of techno (thanks largely to the Belleville Three), Detroit will once again play host to three days packed with music, where electronic sounds will reign supreme, in one of the longest-running dance music festivals in the US.
The historical significance of the city regarding all things techno provides the perfect backdrop for one of the most prestigious and acclaimed events of the year, bringing together local legends like Carl Craig, John “Jammin” Collins, Kevin Saunderson, Stacey Pullen and Mike Huckaby with top domestic and international artists like John Digweed, Claude Von Stroke, Ed Rush and Optical, Laurent Garnier, Lee Burridge, Modeselektor, KiNK, Christian Smith, Nina Kraviz, DJ 3000, Dubfire and a very long etc.
With 85 acts playing in the Festival’s five stages – Movement Stage, Red Bull Music Academy Stage, Stargate Stage, Pyramid Stage and Resident Advisor Underground Stage – there’s surely something for everyone, and a high potential for crazy, unique and unforgettable moments.
Closing the main Movement stage on Saturday, Sunday and Monday will fall on the hands of three different, very capable and well-loved artists: Saturday will be Dirtybird’s head man Claude Vonstroke‘s turn, Sunday will see Loco Dice playing a back-to-back set with the Martinez Brothers, and Monday features none other than all 9 members of the Wu-Tang Clan, playing a special performance celebrating the 25th anniversary of their landmark debut album, ‘Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)’.
Another interesting feature of the event is the Movement Studio, an initiative that will take place in the technology area, showcasing the latest technology from the hand of industry leaders in production and performance gear, software and other accessories. A place that will surely delight both the seasoned producers and DJs as well as newcomers, with presentations and workshops providing a hands-on experience of the future of electronic music.
