Back on A Tribe Called Kotori with his first solo contribution since the release of ‘Cloudfare’ three years ago, Elias Doré returns with ‘La Llorona’ – a special revisit of the eponymous Mexican folk classic featuring M.O.N. on vocals and Leipzig’s Atric on remix duty. Discovered through Montse, alias M.O.N. herself, this widely known song finds itself transformed into a club-ready anthem and proper summer flavoured slo-burner.

Bringing it into a “danceable form that meanders between feelings of melancholy and a sense of fragile beauty” in Doré’s own words, the pair take us on a languidly hypnotic jaunt, from humming it together for the first time as they walked across the lush landscapes of the Canary Islands with a ukulele to actually recording it the studio in just a few hours. With its slow-evolving pads tracing across poetic hyperspace, ‘La Llorona’ unfolds its bright and deep interlacing of “sadness and beauty, with the lyrics being at times rather dark, but the overall emotional landscape of the track drifting towards an energetic peak that is also uplifting in a way”. Handed over to Atric, the track puts on some more drum-laden weight and arpeggiated effervescence, stretching further into cosmic house territories as we’re invited to cast off and dance our life away to the beat of this memento-mori in sound, beautifully rendered in a newly dynamic yet true-to-the-original version for the dance floor.

Release date: July 5th, 2024.
