The renowned nightclub Salon zur Wilden Renate, commonly known as Wilde Renate, has announced its impending closure. This cornerstone of Berlin’s electronic music culture for nearly two decades will cease operations at its current location by the end of 2025.

The closure stems from financial difficulties and lease extension issues. Wilde Renate’s management cited escalating rent costs—which have reportedly more than doubled in recent years—as a primary factor in their decision. The club is grappling with what they describe as a “notorious real estate investor” known for aggressive rent hikes across Berlin.

Wilde Renate’s closure reflects a broader trend affecting Berlin’s club scene. Management highlighted the venue’s importance, stating, “Clubs like Renate are vital for connection, creativity, and Berlin’s reputation.” The closure threatens over 100 jobs and the city’s cultural landscape.

Despite this setback, Wilde Renate’s team remains hopeful. They plan to continue operations at the current site until late 2025 and are exploring options to preserve the club’s legacy, either in a modified form at the present location or at a new site.
