Producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist badfocus is gearing up to unveil another body of work, an EP titled realities on the 28th of November and we’re sharing the EP title-track for the first time.

badfocus is the solo project of Prague-based prodigy Prokop Korb. He has opened for electronic heavyweights like UK producer Max Cooper and German stalwarts Pantha du Prince and Grandbrothers and has graced the stages of festivals in Europe and Canada.

badfocus has quickly built an impressive body of work since launching his project in 2020 at the age of 18. By emphasizing an intuitive approach in his creative process, he cultivates a safe space for himself and collaborative artists to create in complete freedom, without any conventions. Citing a wide range of influences from Kendrick Lamar to Erykah Badu to Jon Hopkins, he concocts a recipe of alternative Hip-Hop laden with intricate production. His music is sure to ensnare fans of XXXTentacion, Saba, and Arca.

The realities EP was produced by badfocus himself, who also contributed to the songwriting alongside the featured artists Klara Wodehn, Twisted DV, Chris Villon, and ATM BENNY. The project was mixed and mastered by Láďa Štěrba. The EP is an intricate six-track odyssey through glitchy scapes of introspection and emotion. The titular opener features shuffling percussion, atmospheric ambiance and auto-tuned vocals, setting an immersive and moody tone for the EP. All tracks aside from ‘realities’ feature collaborations. Klara Wodehn offers Hyperpop vocals over hyperactive breakbeats and ricocheting synths in tancovatforhours, while silverado sees Twisted DV rapping over a steadier beat that doesn’t lose the energy of its predecessor. Deep reflection shines in throwaway cup’s moody soundscape (featuring Chris Villon), while the final two tracks feature vocals from ATM BENNY. badfocus closes the EP with feverish Drum ‘N Bass instrumentation, leaving the listener in a fervent daze.

Speaking about the EP, badfocus shared: “Each track is like a memory for me. Memory of the amazing people with whom I collaborated, of the things that we’ve been through together. It’s basically the same as if you curate a playlist for yourself made of songs that make you feel a certain way regardless of the genre.”

Release date: November 29th, 2024.
