Paul Rose, known to many as Scuba, has shared his latest two-track EP, ‘Animatronic,’ via Sasha’s Last Night On Earth.
The new release sees him returning to melodic territory with the title track, a mid-tempo groover that has been a mystery staple of his live sets. ‘Animatronic’ unfolds with bright, prickly synth modulations, chunky drums, and a spine-tingling breakdown that lets vocals peek through. Meanwhile, ‘Waterfloor’ is a subtle tribute to Berlin’s recently shuttered but legendary Watergate club. Soft hits, clicks, and melodic droplets create a calming atmosphere, while cosmic pads and sleek bass lend a heady and emotional feel.
Scuba credits Sasha’s early support for his ‘Adrenalin’ EP in 2011 as a key moment in his shift towards house and techno, making this collaboration a full-circle moment.
