Berlin’s underground mainstay CLARENCE returns with a powerful dual single release, “Headache” and “Safe Space”, continuing the producer’s deeply personal sonic explorations following a string of well-received EPs via Bandcamp. Active under the CLARENCE alias since 2000, the DJ and producer has long been celebrated for his ability to fuse the raw energy of Chicago House, the futurism of Electro, and the soul of Detroit Techno into emotive club moments. With these two new cuts, CLARENCE opens a more introspective chapter, transforming personal experiences into intimate dancefloor meditations.

“Headache” was born during a period of chronic pain and isolation. Driven by a slow-burning pulse and stripped-back textures, it translates a very physical discomfort into haunting, hypnotic minimalism. The track’s restrained intensity draws listeners into a state of heavy reflection, echoing the emotional and physical weight it was inspired by.

In contrast, “Safe Space” offers a sense of release. Built around subtle harmonic shifts and a comforting groove, it creates a sonic refuge—a moment to pause and realign. “Sometimes we have to step back to reconnect with ourselves and figure out what we truly want,” CLARENCE shares. That ethos is baked into the track’s careful structure, inviting calm without ever losing its dancefloor sensibility.

The release follows a prolific run of EPs, including Collider and Warm Bath (2025), and Verify and Close (2024), each of which has helped define CLARENCE’s evolving aesthetic—emotive, textural, and rhythmically precise. Standout tracks like “Unclose” and “Check” illustrate the artist’s skill for weaving subtle emotional cues into genre-fluid productions.

Adding a visual signature to the project, each release is accompanied by unique cover artwork created by a close friend, offering a consistent, personal visual language that complements the music’s introspective nature.

With “Headache” and “Safe Space”, CLARENCE reaffirms his place as a singular voice in the electronic music landscape, blurring the line between physical rhythm and emotional storytelling.

Release date: June 27th, 2025.
