In just over a year, she’s gone from early mixes to her debut EP, performing at key venues in Lima such as Domingos de Furia and La Casona de Camaná. Her creative focus is clear: to communicate emotion and presence through movement and sound.

In this conversation, Sofi opens up about her beginnings, cultural influences, artistic evolution, and the next phase in her journey.

EG: Hi Sofi Moon, welcome to EG! How are you?

Sofi Moon: Hi, I’m very well, happy, and calm — the most important things.

EG: Let’s go back to the beginning… how did your journey in DJing and music production begin?

Sofi Moon: It all started from a deep connection with music since I was a child. Then I began listening to Electronic music, which captivated me — I felt like I didn’t want to be just on the audience side. I made the decision to train as a DJ, and from the first time I mixed, I felt I had found my place. Production came afterward, as a natural need to take my musical identity beyond the booth. I wanted to create my own sounds.

EG: You’re originally from Colombia and now based in Lima. How have these two places influenced your sound and musical vision?

Sofi Moon: Colombia is pure roots, flavor, and rhythm. Growing up surrounded by so much musical diversity — from cumbia to reggaeton, and more folkloric sounds — gave me a strong sensitivity for grooves and beats that connect with the body. That definitely influenced my taste for tech house with flavor and lots of percussion.

EG: Which subgenres or movements within electronic music naturally attract you, and how have they shaped your style?

Sofi Moon: I’ve always felt a natural connection with the tech House groove — that powerful yet fluid sound. I like that it has body, it has swing, and it lets you play with the audience’s energy in a very organic way. I’m also very drawn to Afro house and minimal deep tech because they have something hypnotic. Over time, I’ve also allowed myself to be influenced by melodic techno and progressive, especially when I want to tell a deeper story.

EG: For someone listening to your music for the first time, how would you describe your sound?

Sofi Moon: My sound is groove with intention. It’s danceable, forceful, but also has nuances — moments to breathe, textures that wrap around you. If you like Tech House with strong percussion, enveloping basslines, and details that keep the journey interesting, you’ll probably connect with what I do.

EG: Looking ahead, what excites you most about this new chapter in your artistic journey?

Sofi Moon: What excites me the most is feeling like I’m starting to show who I really am through my music — it’s like opening a new window into my sonic universe.

EG: Can you tell us a bit about your first experiences as a DJ? Do you remember your first set? And how have you evolved on the decks since then?

Sofi Moon: My first set was at Domingos de Furia in Barranco. I was nervous, but also really excited. I had that mix of adrenaline and stage fright that you only feel the first time you stand in front of a booth with people expecting something from you. But when I played the first track and saw the crowd connect, I knew I wanted to do this forever — and then I started to relax and really enjoyed it.

At that time, my focus was on mixing well, making everything sound clean. Today, beyond the technique, I focus on building a story, on reading the crowd.

EG: Which artists or producers have had the biggest creative impact on you?

Sofi Moon: There are several, but if I had to highlight a few that have really shaped my path, I’d say Dennis Cruz, Paco Osuna, and Classmatic. I’m very inspired by how they handle groove, their presence in the booth, and how they keep the dancefloor alive without resorting to the obvious. They have a very defined sound, but at the same time, they constantly reinvent themselves.

EG: Your debut EP, ‘WHOA’, just came out — what can people expect when they listen, and what do you hope they take away from the experience?

Sofi Moon: Tracks with lots of groove, marked percussion, and details that invite both the body and mind to travel. There’s strength, but there’s also intention. People can expect a sound that balances the dancefloor and personality — something that hits hard but isn’t generic. These are tracks born from creative freedom, not trying to fit into any formula.

EG: And finally, are there more projects, collaborations, or shows we should keep an eye out for?

Sofi Moon: I’m already working on new music that explores other shades of my sound, and there are also some collaborations coming up with producers from the local scene. As for dates, there are new shows coming up both in Lima and elsewhere, so stay tuned — I’ll be bringing my sound to more booths and dancefloors.
