Two people were killed and six others injured in a shooting outside a warehouse party in downtown Los Angeles early Monday morning. The incident occurred in the 1100 block of 14th Place, in an industrial district where a number of unofficial after-parties were reported following the Hard Summer festival weekend.
Police initially shut down the gathering around 11 PM on Sunday after a report of an armed individual. Just two hours later, officers responded to gunfire at the same location, where eight people were found shot. A man in his late 20s died at the scene, and a woman in her early 50s later died in hospital.
Authorities recovered multiple firearms and confirmed one arrest. A law enforcement source described the event as connected to a local gang’s private “hood day” celebration. Police have not identified additional suspects.
Officials and business leaders have raised increasing concern over the frequency and scale of illegal warehouse events in the downtown area. These gatherings, often held without permits or security, have been linked to drug use, violence, and unsafe conditions. Last month, Los Angeles City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto filed suit against an unlicensed after-hours venue, citing repeated threats to public safety.
The shooting marks the latest in a series of violent incidents tied to unregulated nightlife in L.A.’s post-industrial zones — areas long associated with underground music but now facing renewed scrutiny.
