Australian producer and DJ Uone has unveiled a striking new project that merges electronic music with the last poetry recordings of Jim Morrison. The two tracks — ‘Politics of Ecstasy’ and ‘Listen to the Children Talk’ — are out now via Beat & Path.
On December 8, 1970, Morrison recorded a series of poems at The Village Recorder in Los Angeles. These would become his final spoken-word works before his death. Over 50 years later, Uone was entrusted with these rare recordings by Morrison’s nephew Sefton, who had been inspired by the artist’s sets and creative approach.
The result is a genre-spanning transformation of Morrison’s voice into modern soundscapes. ‘Politics of Ecstasy’ takes the form of a psychedelic, western-tinged surf rock journey, while ‘Listen to the Children Talk’ reshapes Morrison’s words into a deep house roller with a raw rock undercurrent.
“It’s about channeling Morrison’s spirit into the now — giving his poetry a stage on today’s dance floors and beyond,” shares Uone.
