Ron Carroll, the Chicago-born DJ, vocalist, and songwriter, passed away at 57. Fellow Chicago DJ Deonte Pennington shared the news on Facebook on September 22nd, 2025. No cause of death has been disclosed.

Born in 1968, Carroll grew up singing in church choirs before finding his way into the city’s rising house scene. He released his debut record ‘My Prayer’ in 1993 and soon after co-wrote Barbara Tucker’s ‘I Get Lifted’ following a meeting with Louie Vega at the Winter Music Conference.

Over the following three decades, Carroll became one of house music’s most recognizable voices. His preacher-like delivery earned him the nickname “The Minister of Sound,” while collaborations including Superfunk’s ‘Lucky Star,’ Hardsoul’s ‘Back Together,’ and Bob Sinclar and Axwell’s ‘What A Wonderful World’ cemented his global reach.

Beyond his vocal contributions, Carroll built a career as a DJ, label owner, and touring artist. He performed widely across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, while remaining deeply connected to Chicago’s community. He was scheduled to appear at the Amsterdam Dance Event next month.

Carroll’s legacy is one of bridging gospel, soul, and electronic music, leaving behind a voice that continues to resonate across dance floors worldwide.
