Electronic producers Max Cooper and Rob Clouth have joined forces for a new four-track EP titled ‘8 Billion Realities’, out now via Mesh. The release features a standout vocal performance from South London’s FLOHIO and arrives with a visual for ‘A Moment Set Aside’, directed by visual artist Dimitri Thouzery.
Recorded across a series of spontaneous sessions in London, the EP moves between ambient textures, breakbeat fragments, and pulsing techno. Opting to leave behind the conceptual intensity of past projects, Cooper and Clouth embraced improvisation, focusing instead on instinct and shared joy in the creative process.
“We were both coming from extensive conceptual studio albums and in the mood for simplifying things and having some fun with the music, so that’s what we did,” says Cooper. On ‘A Moment Set Aside’, an improvised piece built on arps and ambient layers, Cooper adds: “It was pulled from a 1-hour recording session, more or less as you hear it… the energy and excitement grew as the unplanned moment bore some magic.”
Other tracks include ‘Asymptote’, a descent into detuned techno, and the title track ‘8 Billion Realities’, featuring FLOHIO’s fierce and emotionally charged performance. “A different reality for all 8 billion of us,” says Cooper. “We weren’t sure if it would work… but FLOHIO absolutely killed it—not just with the lyrics and energy, but the harmonising too.”
The EP closes with ‘Candeleda’, a track rooted in Clouth’s live experiments with a vocal and keys rig, shaped using his self-developed “cheatbox” system.
The video for ‘A Moment Set Aside’ explores the restorative imagery of forests through 3D scans and immersive storytelling. “When I’m feeling stressed the forest is my favourite place to go,” says Cooper. “Dimitri told the story beautifully with a nod towards something greater than just the forests themselves.”
