Carl Cox has released a powerful new remix project reimagining James Brown’s iconic 1968 anthem ‘Say It Loud – I’m Black and I’m Proud’. Out now, ‘I’m Black And I’m Proud – Say It Loud (Remixes)’ bridges generations and genres, bringing the civil rights-era classic into today’s club culture while preserving its core message of pride, identity, and unity.
The original track, released during a defining moment in American history, became a cultural milestone for Black empowerment with its unmistakable call-and-response hook and funk-fueled groove. Cox’s remix channels that same energy, adding modern electronic weight while retaining the urgency and spirit of Brown’s voice and vision.
“Remixing ‘Say It Loud – I’m Black and I’m Proud’ isn’t about the past — it’s about keeping the fire alive,” says Carl Cox. “James Brown laid the foundation, the rhythm, the message, the pride. His legacy still moves dancefloors and minds worldwide. This is respect to the Godfather, to Black History, and to the power of music that unites us all.”
The release includes multiple versions for different contexts — from club-ready cuts to archival live material — creating a dialogue between soul, house, techno, and history.
