Boards of Canada return with new single ‘Tape 05’

Out now via Warp Records.

Boards of Canada have released their first new music in thirteen years, sharing a track titled ‘Tape 05’ via Warp Records. The surprise release follows a series of cryptic billboard advertisements and social media teasers that appeared earlier this week.

The duo officially uploaded the track to YouTube today, April 16th, 2026, while the label provided further previews through their digital channels. This marks the first studio output from the Scottish brothers since their 2013 album, ‘Tomorrow’s Harvest.’

‘Tape 05’ features the analog textures and downtempo rhythmic structures characteristic of the group’s established sound. The arrangement focuses on vintage synthesis and filtered melodic loops, maintaining the aesthetic of their previous discography.

Formed by Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin, Boards of Canada became a defining act for Warp Records during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Their influence on the IDM and ambient electronic genres remains significant, driven by a limited but highly regarded body of work.
