Daniel Avery and Matthew Dear Remix MOTO SOLO’s “Wait and Wait” in Two-Part Remix Series UK producer and composer Daniel Avery will release his remix of MOTO SOLO’s “Wait and Wait” on May 13, completing a two-part remix series alongside Ghostly International co-founder Matthew Dear.
Known for his remixes of The Cure and New Order, Avery reimagines the track as a hazy, psychedelic shoegaze wall of sound driven by distorted synthesizers and a shuffling, propulsive beat. The rework features Queens of the Stone Age bassist Michael Shuman, who produced the original version and is a key collaborator in MOTO SOLO’s recent work.
“This is one of those remixes that unfolded in front of me,” Avery says of the collaboration. “I love how many hooks are buried in Bobby’s original so I shone a light on a few and hammered them into a psychedelic haze. It’s been in my head ever since.”
“The best part of working with artists like Daniel Avery and Matthew Dear is the unknown,” adds MOTO SOLO’s Bobby Tamkin. “Daniel unknowingly bridged the gap between two of my greatest influences, Black Sabbath and My Bloody Valentine. It doesn’t sound like either group individually, but it’s exactly what I imagine a collaboration between them would feel like—the relentless stomp of Sabbath enveloped in the vast atmosphere of My Bloody Valentine.”
The series launched in April with Matthew Dear’s stark, pulse-driven rework. “On paper, MOTO SOLO’s music and mine might seem like they come from different places, but beneath the surface there are a lot of shared intersections,” says Dear, who has remixed Depeche Mode and The xx. “Getting to know Bobby and spending time with ‘Wait and Wait’ helped me discover where the remix wanted to go. It felt less like remixing a song and more like remixing our overlapping influences and shared musical experiences.”
The “Wait and Wait” remixes follow a growing run of high-profile collaborations for MOTO SOLO, including Gui Boratto’s rework of “There’s Another Way,” which is approaching 300K streams on Spotify.
Based in Mar Vista, California, MOTO SOLO is the project of Bobby Tamkin, whose background spans decades in experimental and alternative music, including work with the Seattle group Hovercraft and his own band Xu Xu Fang. The band released music on Kompakt Records, with a remix by Kompakt label head Jörg Burger, and was featured in Rolling Stone. Their cover of David Bowie’s “China Girl,” part of a 35-band tribute record (Warpaint, Duran Duran), was singled out by MOJO Magazine, which wrote, “Xu Xu Fang’s baked trip hop ‘China Girl’ beats the recognized talent.”
MOTO SOLO’s recent material has been developed in collaboration with Michael Shuman and GRAMMY-winning engineers Michael Harris (Lana Del Rey, Arctic Monkeys) and Emily Lazar (The Prodigy, Moby).
Avery’s remix arrives May 13, closing out the series and marking the latest step toward MOTO SOLO’s forthcoming debut LP, produced by Michael Shuman.
Release date: May 13th, 2026.
