JUNO opens up about momentum, minimalism, and connection

JUNO has quickly emerged as one of the scene’s rising names, building momentum through emotionally driven club records and a growing international presence.

Based in Hamburg, the artist has steadily developed a sound rooted in groove, restraint, and dancefloor connection, earning support through releases on labels including Magnifik while carving out a distinct musical identity of his own.

Now, JUNO joins forces with Alex Wann for the new ‘Allo’ EP on Crosstown Rebels, a collaborative project shaped by minimal production choices, subtle detail, and a shared instinct for groove-focused storytelling. Recently selected by Pete Tong as  Essential New Tune, both artists lean into simplicity while preserving the character that defines each of their sounds.

In this conversation, JUNO reflects on collaboration, trusting his instincts, connecting with audiences, and the personal mindset behind his recent rise.

EG: Hi JUNO, welcome to EG. Great to have you here. How have you been? Where are you speaking to us from today?

JUNO: I’m happy to be here as well. Thank you for the invitation. I’m speaking to you today from Hamburg, Germany.

EG: Congratulations on your ‘Allo’ EP alongside Alex Wann on Crosstown Rebels. What brought the two of you together for this collaboration?

JUNO: Actually, we’ve known each other for quite a while now, although at first it was more of a casual connection; the way it often is in the scene. We used to share tracks, exchange ideas, and have some small talk here and there, and that’s basically how the connection started.

EG: There’s a strong sense of groove and restraint in this EP. When you were building these tracks, what were you focusing on keeping in—and what did you consciously leave out?

JUNO: Yeah, I think you can definitely hear that we approached the production a bit differently this time. It was important for us to connect with the Crosstown Rebels family while still staying true to our own community and sound. That’s why we decided to hold back a little more and produce in a more minimal way than usual, while still keeping some subtle Alex Wann and JUNO touches in the tracks.

EG: Creatively speaking, is there a concept or emotional drive behind these two cuts? What sort of things inspire you to create?

JUNO: Not really, to be honest. We started the idea very naturally, and from the beginning, we both had the feeling that this project had something special and that we needed to continue it and share it with the world.

What inspires me to produce is actually a difficult question, because there are so many different factors and emotions involved when creating music. A lot of things inspire me: people, moments, energy, experiences, but in the end, I think I inspire myself the most.

EG: The tracks have already been getting play in sets before release. When you first heard them working on a dancefloor, what did that moment feel like for you?

JUNO: I’d say even in the studio, the track already caught our attention straight away. As I mentioned before, we both felt that the project was something special, and we were fully behind it from the beginning; that’s why we wanted to release it, regardless of how the crowd would react.

Of course, hearing it work on a dancefloor is always a special feeling. For me, it’s important to really catch people during a set and take them on a journey. Tracks like these are part of that journey; almost like a rollercoaster: up and down, faster and slower, with a few unexpected turns along the way.

“It’s about staying grounded, remembering where I come from, and knowing who I have to thank for this journey”

EG: As a newer voice coming up, you’ve already built a solid catalog with labels like Magnifik. At what point did things start to feel real for you as an artist?

JUNO: Exactly; I’ve been active on the international scene for about a year now, and I think the moment it really started to feel real was when I began receiving messages from bigger artists, but also from people who came to see me play at shows.

It was an amazing feeling to see how quickly my music was able to reach people around the world and even put a smile on their faces. That was the moment I realized I was on the right path. Since then, my mission has simply been to keep pushing forward for my people, my community, and everyone who believed in and supported me from the beginning.

EG: Collaborating can shift the way ideas take shape. What did working with Alex bring out in you that might not have surfaced on your own?

JUNO: I could definitely say a lot about that, but with this project, we both realized that simplicity, fewer “extra” and unnecessary elements, can sometimes be the real key.

On top of that, Alex has been a true supporter from day one and has become a close friend over time. I’m really grateful that he has supported my music since the beginning, and also that he’s been a loyal friend throughout the journey.

EG: When you’re in the studio, what’s the moment you’re chasing? That point where you know a track has something worth finishing?

JUNO: I’d say there’s never really a “perfect” track or project. Some tracks reach certain people, some don’t; and that’s just part of it.

For me, what matters most is standing behind what I do and trusting myself. Staying true to your own vision and just doing your own thing. I think that’s also why I’ve been able to connect with people, because I’ve stayed consistent with my sound.

I’ve always produced what I felt like making, what I personally wanted to hear. In the end, I just wanted to be JUNO.

EG: On a personal level, what’s something you’ve had to trust in yourself as you’ve started gaining momentum?

JUNO: That’s a great question, and I could probably talk a lot about it. But the most important thing for me is staying true to myself and staying “JUNO,” no matter how successful things get or how big the shows become.

I want to remain the same person who’s right there in front of the crowd, sharing the moment and the energy, no matter the stage or the event.

In general, it’s about staying grounded, remembering where I come from, and knowing who I have to thank for this journey. A big thank you to everyone who has supported me and believed in me; without you, I wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t have this confidence.

I promise I’ll keep pushing forward for you.

EG: If you think about the path ahead, what would feel like a real step forward for you over the next year? What’s next for you? Where can people expect to hear you in the coming months?

JUNO: Where I see myself in the future is something only time will tell, but I can promise you one thing: I’m going to keep pushing and giving it my all. I’m lucky to have an amazing team behind me, and together we’re strong. Nothing really works without that kind of support system.

There are some exciting projects on the way, as well as shows, and I honestly can’t wait to share everything and meet everyone who comes out to support me.

EG: Thank you so much for your time. We wish you all the best with the ‘Allo’ EP and everything that’s ahead. Take care!

JUNO: Thank you for the interview, it was a real pleasure! And of course, thank you to everyone who’s reading or listening; I hope to see each and every one of you soon. Much love and a big kiss to you all.
