Both tracks arrive ahead of ‘Distance in Static’ on Ninja Tune.

Bonobo has shared two new singles from his forthcoming album ‘Distance in Static’. ‘Fire on the Water’, featuring Arooj Aftab, sits at the emotional centre of the record, while ‘Drift’ explores a more club-focused direction and arrives alongside an official video.
According to Simon Green, ‘Fire on the Water’ emerged during recording sessions at Neil Young’s Broken Arrow Ranch in California, where much of the upcoming album was completed. Built around an acoustic guitar loop, the track evolved after Arooj Aftab added vocals in Urdu using lyrics written by Yasra Rizvi.
To accompany the release, the artist has also issued a limited hand-numbered 12-inch featuring ‘Drift’ alongside the previously unreleased track ‘Memory Signal’, a regular feature in his recent DJ sets.
‘Distance in Static’ is scheduled for release on September 11th, 2026, via Ninja Tune and includes collaborations with Joy Crookes, Nilüfer Yanya, Ichiko Aoba, Nicole Miglis, and Aanya Martin. Bonobo will also launch a new live production across North America later this year.
