Spotify is introducing a new AI Persona badge designed to identify artist profiles whose public identities may be generated by artificial intelligence rather than representing real people.
The label is expected to roll out on mobile from mid-September, appearing across artist-profile banners, About sections, search results, and song rows in playlists. Artists will be able to disclose their profiles as AI Personas, while Spotify may apply a Likely AI Persona label after reviewing profiles it believes use AI-generated identities.
Artists flagged through Spotify’s review process will be notified and allowed to self-disclose or appeal the decision. Music connected to AI Persona profiles will also be excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default, unless listeners actively follow those profiles.
The measure focuses on the identity represented by an artist profile rather than determining whether individual tracks were created with AI tools. It follows the launch of Spotify’s separate Verified by Spotify program, under which profiles that primarily represent AI-generated artists or AI personas are not eligible for verification.
