Florian Schneider, co-founder of Kraftwerk has passed away

The artists died of a cancer-related illness.

According to Billboard, Florian Schneider, a member of the German electronic band Kraftwerk has died at 73. Schneider started the multimedia project with Ralf Hütter back in 1970. Kraftwerk broke the mold with electronic instruments, and home-made devices, and are credited with pioneering electronic music, and thus having an impact on different genres across the spectrum.

Schneider (synthesizer, vocoder, flute, sax, and more, as well as vocals) decided to leave Kraftwerk back in 2008, after nearly four decades. During his time with the band, they released 10 studio albums, including the ground-breaking ‘Autoban’ and ‘Trans-Europe Express’, which have become cornerstones in the electronic scene. Since its inception, Kraftwerk has sold over 733,000 copies. They are also recipients of a Grammy in 2017 for 3-D The Catalogue’, They have also received six nominations for the Rock Hall of Fame, though the influential electronic band is yet to be inducted.

“The very sad news that his friend and companion over many decades Florian Schneider has passed away from a short cancer disease just a few days after his 73rd birthday”, said Kraftwerk co-founder Ralf Hütter, as he confirmed the news.
