Ryabina is a trio of improvisators from Yekaterinburg, Russia. Each of them is an accomplished musician, who published stuff on classic vinyl on Russian and international labels.
The history of Ryabina started in 2017, when Igor Phoboz and Vadim Ronin started doing music improvisations with electronic devices. Home studio was on Ryabinina street and hence the name. Shine Grooves joined the group later.
Actually, there was the fourth member of Ryabina: the cat called Pasha. He was a real member of the group during the improvisations: he pushed the buttons of the groove boxes, walked across the synthesizer keys, he did a lot! All Ryabina self-released works were published with Pasha’s photos. Unfortunately, he died in 2018. The new release that we are talking about is called dedicated to P. P is for Pasha.
The musical style of the collective is rooted in dub and glitch electronics of the first half of the 2000s. On side A, the pulsing bass twists around the dotted rhythm section, while side B opens up from shimmering ambient and goes into a 4/4 bouncing rhythm that well works on the dance floors of the city.
