Annie Nightingale presents scholarship for non-binary & female DJs

Introducing 3 new recipients each year.

BBC Radio 1’s first female DJ and longest-serving presenter Annie Nightingale has announced a new scholarship program intended to support upcoming generations of female and non-binary DJs.

The ‘Annie Nightingale Presents Scholarship’ will aid ‘historically underrepresented’ groups in the dance music industry. Nightingale will be selecting three winners each year, who will be then presented with a 1-hour slot on BBC Radio 1 on a Saturday night.

The first winners of the initiative are London’s LCY, Adelaide-based GODLANDS, and Peckham’s DJ Martha. They are all scheduled to appear together on BBC Radio 1 on November 6th.

‘Ever since I began, I have wanted to help other young broadcasters passionate about music to achieve their dreams on the airwaves, and now we at Radio 1 are to put that on a proper footing.’ said Nightingale about the new venture.

According to BBC Radio 1, the scholarship program ‘aims to celebrate and elevate talented women and non-binary people in the electronic music scene by providing them with a national platform to showcase their taste and expertise’.
