Artist Of The Month: Thaddeus X

With a journey defined by late discovery and clear-cut self-direction, Thaddeus X has emerged as a thoughtful and versatile voice in contemporary electronic music. His sound, which spans deep club grooves, introspective textures, and moments of euphoria, reflects both a global perspective and a meticulous approach to musical storytelling.

Thaddeus X first encountered electronic music at 17, a revelation that would redefine his trajectory. “Up until that age, I lived in a town where I listened mainly to rock; I didn’t even know electronic music existed,” he recalls. His introduction was abrupt and almost shocking: a visit to Omën club in Madrid exposed him to Oscar Mulero’s intense set, a sound he describes as “incredibly crude” yet hypnotically captivating.

From there, his education continued across the city’s clubs: Deep with J.L. Magoya, Room with Ángel García, Mondo with Gerardo Niva, and Coppelia 101, where Iván Smoka was among the resident DJs. Those years, he says, were when he “danced the most,” while idolizing artists such as James Holden, Nathan Fake, Guy Gerber, Ivan Smagghe, and many others who shaped his aesthetic sensibilities.

The transition from listener to creator came later. Years spent working as an event producer provided industry insight, but it was the global pandemic that catalyzed his commitment to production. Confined at home with his now friend and collaborator Iván, he began experimenting with patterns and textures, transforming curiosity into craft. “We started developing sounds… and we haven’t stopped working since,” he notes, underscoring a career founded on persistence and focus.

Navigating a constantly overflowing scene has been among his most persistent challenges. “Achieving goals in such a saturated music market… you have to work hard every day with the utmost enthusiasm,” he explains, emphasizing self-critical growth and the importance of constant personal evolution.

Thaddeus X’s discography reflects his multifaceted approach. Releasing on the major label Mobilee marked a defining milestone. “It’s not often that such a major label gives the opportunity to release an EP to a little-known artist, so I will be eternally grateful,” he says. Inspiration flows from personal experience, the natural world, urban life, and the works of fellow artists. His music aims to create introspection, inviting listeners to “look inward, reflect on their own emotions, and connect deeply with their inner world.”

Managing multiple aliases (Velvet Surf and The Selenite) allowed him to explore experimental and underground sounds without constraints. Today, he focuses primarily on Thaddeus X, consolidating his creative energy under a single identity while retaining the depth and versatility that defined his earlier explorations.

Entrepreneurial ventures have followed his artistic expansion. He recently launched Last Cat On Earth, a label designed to embrace a wide spectrum of electronic styles. Early initiatives include a consistent release schedule and a vision to establish a local electronic music hub in the Dominican Republic. “We want a place free of perreo… it takes time and hard work,” he notes, highlighting both ambition and patience in building infrastructure for the community.

Thaddeus X approaches DJing with the same rigor as production. For him, a great set is about emotional connection and dynamic movement across genres. His sound emphasizes atmospheric textures, deep grooves, and euphoria, generating a balanced sensory experience while reflecting his spontaneous, sincere approach to musical expression.

Looking ahead, Thaddeus X remains committed to exploration and personal growth while embracing the unseen. “Who can know that? All I hope is that in the future I continue to feel the same intense love for music that I feel today,” he reflects. With upcoming releases and an evolving vision for performance and production, his journey continues: one step at a time, rooted in passion, authenticity, and a clear dedication to both craft and listener.
