An immersive experience to accompany his new EP.
Aphex Twin has just unveiled his new augmented reality app, YXBoZXh0d2lu, which was created by Japan-based spatial internet studio KALKUL.
The new app combines work from Aphex Twin’s long-standing collaborator Weirdcore, and offers an alternate world of interactive augmented reality, blending artwork with AFX videos.
YXBoZXh0d2lu, which translates to ‘aphextwin’ when decrypted using Base64 binary-to-text encoding, features a collection of AR landscapes each soundtracked by Aphex Twin’s latest release, ‘Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / in a room7 F760’.
The app works by pointing the phone camera at the packaging of Aphex Twin’s latest release, and, when used on a special trifold “anamorphic diorama” inside the vinyl edition of the EP, it also unlocks four track-by-track AR experiences.
