Biography

Few artists have navigated electronic music’s shifting landscapes with the precision and conviction of Dubfire. Born Ali Shirazinia in Iran and raised in the United States, his career reflects a constant pursuit of reinvention—guided not by trends, but by a disciplined, forward-facing vision of sound.

Dubfire first rose to prominence as one half of Deep Dish, the Grammy-winning duo he formed with Sharam Tayebi in the early ’90s. At a time when house music was crossing into the mainstream, Deep Dish delivered both commercial success and underground credibility, culminating in a Grammy Award for their remix of Dido’s “Thank You.” Yet as the decade closed, Dubfire began shifting toward a darker, more minimal aesthetic—an evolution that would redefine his trajectory.

Emerging as a solo artist in the mid-2000s, Dubfire embraced stripped-down techno and minimalism with striking clarity. His productions and DJ sets favored surgical precision: driving low-end structures, restrained melodic fragments, and meticulous sound design. The shift was not cosmetic—it was conceptual. Dubfire distanced himself from formulaic expectations and committed to a sound rooted in tension, space, and architectural control.

Through his label SCI+TEC, he has cultivated a catalog centered on cutting-edge techno, platforming both his own work and that of artists aligned with his meticulous sonic ethos. SCI+TEC became an extension of his philosophy—focused, curated, and uncompromising.

In the booth, Dubfire’s performances are immersive and disciplined. His sets build with patience, often unfolding over extended durations that emphasize atmosphere and dynamic control rather than immediate payoff. Whether in cavernous festival environments or intimate club settings, his approach remains consistent: precise mixing, structural flow, and an unwavering commitment to forward momentum.

Decades into his career, Dubfire stands as an artist defined not by a single era, but by evolution itself. From progressive house architect to minimal techno purist, his journey reflects a rare willingness to dismantle and rebuild—always in service of a sound that remains rigorously his own.
