San Francisco-based collective As You Like It is reviving its Detroit-focussed event series, Unabridged, with a year-long run of performances and panels beginning in February 2026.
Launching on February 27th, the Unabridged series will spotlight pioneering Detroit artists and collectives through a mix of conversations, DJ sets, and live performances. The opening night features a panel titled ‘The Midwest Queer Underground’ at San Francisco’s queer club The Stud, hosted by Marke B. and featuring Stacey ‘Hotwaxx’ Hale and The Blessed Madonna. Later that night, Public Works will host a b2b set from The Blessed Madonna and Mike Servito, with support from Hale, Mouthfeel, and Abdoulie.
The program continues with a Bay Area weekender from March 5th through 7th. On March 5th, 1015 Folsom will host a 30th-anniversary tribute to Jeff Mills’ Live At the Liquid Room mix, including a screening and a DJ set from Mills. On March 8th, 3 Chairs members Moodymann and Marcellus Pittman will take over 7th West in Oakland for a five-hour b2b set, joined by nina sol, Patrick Wilson, and others.
“Detroit techno is America’s story,” says Jeremy Bispo, founder of As You Like It and Unabridged. “Black and brown Americans invented a new genre of music. It’s been exported worldwide, yet its origins remain under-acknowledged at home.”
