Barbara Nicole has just released ‘Dirty Dutch Vol.1’, marking the eighth release on Good Crazy label.
The EP opens with a bold take on Pulp’s ‘Common People.’ Nicole reimagines the indie anthem as a hypnotic electronic track with minimalist melodies and pulsing drums. Her pitched-down vocals and dark production create a fresh sonic landscape bridging old and new.
The second track features Nicole’s innovative take on ‘SexyBack.’ The production blends Hi-NRG and electroclash elements, while her commanding vocals and siren calls transform it into a powerful dance floor anthem.
Speaking about the project, Barbara Nicole reveals, “Dirty Dutch Vol. 1 brings back positive memories of California since it marked the first time collaborating with my Dirty Dutch brothers. On ‘Common People,’ I enjoyed leaning into a dark, deadpan style of vocal delivery. With ‘SexyBack,’ my muse called upon me to release a siren call, and I answered (which came really naturally). You first hear it in the intro and then arpeggiated throughout the track. These covers mark the first of a few Dirty Dutch volumes, all dark interpretations of classics.”
