A new study by entertainment platform JB has ranked Barcelona as the best city in the world for nightlife.

The research found that five of the ten highest-rated cities are in Europe, with Barcelona leading the list thanks to its density of venues, affordable drinks, and extended opening hours. With over 300 bars and pubs per 100km, an average drink price of $4.65 (€4), and venues staying open until 6:00 AM, the Catalan capital secured the top spot.

Other European cities featured include Paris, Tbilisi, Prague, and Budapest, with drink prices dipping as low as $2.99 (€2.50) and clubs rated highly by visitors.

Outside Europe, Tokyo ranked third and was praised for its safety, while Seoul, Yerevan, Bangkok, and Bali also made the top ten. JB noted that nightlife is now a key travel driver: “About 60% of travellers now pick their destination based on nightlife, which shows how much people care about what happens after dark,” said a JB spokesperson. “But safety matters more than anything else when you’re out drinking in a new city, especially for women traveling alone or with friends.”

The study also revealed that nightlife spending accounts for approximately 15% of travelers’ total holiday budgets.
