Now in its 13th year, the Berlin Music Video Awards (BMVA) returns from June 12th to 14th, 2025, with a bold showcase of visual experimentation. Founded by Aviel Silook, the festival champions music videos that challenge convention, with a focus on creativity, storytelling, and independence, free from state funding or corporate sponsorship.

This year, electronic music takes a central role, with nominees spanning the genre’s broad spectrum of styles and formats. Among them is electro icon Anthony Rother, whose entry ‘WE ARE FUTURISTS – FUTURE KIDS’, directed by Timo Schlenstedt, is nominated for Best AI. The piece explores human-machine symbiosis through a futurist lens, reflecting the genre’s deep-rooted connection to technology.

Other highlights include Vintage Culture and NoMBe’s ‘Pleasure Chasers’, nominated for Best Cinematography. Klangkarussell x GIVVEN’s ‘Afterglow’ brings emotive, melodic textures to the same category. Berlin-based duo FJAAK  are up for Best Experimental with ‘Hustle’, a gritty, abstract piece that embraces the underground spirit of techno.

In Best Concept, Tommy Holohan & Megra’s ‘Show Me The Sky’ merges soaring techno and surreal narrative visuals. Monolink’s ‘Mesmerized’, directed by Nicola von Leffern and produced by PPMNEXT_, competes for Best Director, offering an immersive audiovisual blend of songwriting and deep house.

With artists hailing from Brazil, Austria, Germany, the U.S., and Ireland, the BMVA’s 2025 lineup underscores electronic music’s global reach and adaptability—from analog roots to AI-driven futures.

Live performances will further amplify the festival’s energy. Dogshow, Joanne Bird, Lamia, Ballet Sur_Real, and Jedy Deady contribute diverse sets ranging from theatrical to lo-fi and ambient. Ice Zaddy, part of the Silver Screening program, brings a cinematic edge, while Louis Cardozo’s song-based performance highlights emotional depth in audiovisual form.

A late-night DJ roster including HelloTrip, Lawya, Chris Craft, djerome, Jessy Fury, qrauer, and Jellyeeee will infuse the event with techno, glitch, breakbeat, and experimental electronics.
